We've just bought a couple of daylight bulbs for the living room. This is all part of our multi-pronged strategy for beating the recession and making this winter a happy experience. It may be glooming outside, but inside it'll be as bright as May Day and we won't get SAD.

We've also invested in fleeces. Mine has little skull and crossbones all over it.

I understand the Large Hadron Collider has been switched on. This is probably the most important event of the 21st century thus far. I don't think we've been sucked into an alternate universe, but if we had, would we notice?

Were the bulbs expensive?
I think we need some,too.
The logs for the fire are piling up nicely.
I like the sound of your fleece and I'm very glad to still be alive on this planet.

We got 'em from www.cheapenergysavinglightbulbs.co.uk

They cost us £3.19 each- but they were more expensive than most because we had to have screw fittings.

I wish we had a wood burning stove. My mother got rid of hers because it was unsightly- a mistake I think. She lives down your end of the country and is surrounded by trees.

Wood stoves are great - the heat would literally drive you outside! Also, when the power shut down during a blizzard, we were warm and also able to make instant coffee, tea, and soup or stew. (More memories of New Hampshire).
Yes, at times I do miss the wood stove - but I do not miss splitting all that firewood!

We live in a smoke free zone- which means we're not supposed to burn anything but smokeless fuel- though I'm not sure anyone checks up :)

well, the sun has come out over here, so naturally I'm suspicious that the LHC has gone horribly wrong. :-)

It's scary.

The skies are clearing here as well. Help, we've been transported to the far side of the universe!

*giggles* Probably not!

There's no way of telling, is there?

The collider worked fine according to the news. I THINK I'm still in the same house....

I am rather disappointed to find I am in the same body--I was hoping to wake up to find myself in Jessica Alba's body.

Would be dreadfully unfair to the poor girl to stick her with MY body....but she would learn humility....quickly....

Oh how funny!

I would go for Audrey Hepburn... except that she is no longer living... that might not be too wise of a choice.

It may be the same house, but is it in the same universe?

I think so...
A WW2 bomber just flew overhead though. :^) (It's visiting over at our town airport)

They have air-shows here that get unbelievable planes to come in. They have had lots of old planes, a stealth bomber, and that helicopter that can take off straight up.... and more. They do sell rides in this one but it's almost $400 a person!

We live near an international airport, so we get lots of planes going over- but nothing terribly exciting- more's the pity.

Reminds me -- I've got to get some of those bulbs. Lately when the sun does not shine, neither do I, LOL! And winter has never been my favorite time of year, as much as I have tried and tried to make friends with it.

I find myself quite down in the mouth by the time January and February come round. I'm hoping the artificial sunlight will make a difference.

People are talking about it -- apparently lots of University of Wisconsin folks have been involved. Here's a blip from our paper today, with a tidbit I find amusing! (Bucky Badger is our football mascot.)

"...stuck on many surfaces of the grand machine are stickers of a proud Bucky Badger as well as many UW-Madison logos.

They have been left there over the past 15 years of construction by the many UW-Madison researchers and engineers who have played a crucial role in bringing to life a machine most scientists believe will necessitate a rewriting of physics textbooks."

I have to admit, though, that I haven't been following this at ALL. In fact, I hadn't heard of the Large Hadron Collider until you mentioned it!

Oh, and the universe as seen from over here seems the same as always. As you say, though, how would we know? ;-)

I guess it's been a truly international project- which is sort of symbolised by it's being situated at the borders of two countries- France and Switzerland.

Which is nice.

My nephew- the physicist- is going to spend time at Cern next year. I can't tell you how proud that makes me feel!

I don't think we've been sucked into an alternate universe, but if we had, would we notice?

Isn't that the premise of most of the Twilight Zone episodes or all of Philip Dick's novels?

If we are in an alternative universe but don't know it yet, what is the distinguishing characteristic of this new one?

* brussel sprouts taste good?
* Macs crash more frequently than PCs?

Brussels sprouts taste good anyway- especially if you cook them with chestnuts.

Hey, maybe I've always been in that other universe....

I am in an alternate universe!

Tho, I'll need to try the chestnuts idea.

There's really nothing wrong with spouts, is there?

I don't have them often, but whenever I do I'm surprised to remember how much I like them.

Sounds very un-fung shei (oh, how do you spell that?)!

As for the Collider: "It's the end of the world as we know it, but I feel fine...."
