Ailz: So what do we call you?

Priest: Father Graham, that's what I'm called. Or 'Ere You.

That won me over. A sweet man. Early middle age. Neat beard. Lazy eye. A giggler. Efficient too: he took out a notebook and wrote down everything we told him about Eric. I gave him the story about Eric selling plastic boxes to Freddie Mercury without knowing who he was.

Impressive. You seem a hard one to win over.

I have a love-hate relationship with the clergy.

Nice to know there are still some decent people in dog collars.

I don't know how the decent ones carry on- really I don't- knowing, as they must know, that much of what they're obliged to believe and teach is nonsense.

My f-i-l was sales clerk for a firm selling plastic boxes. One day this beautiful young man turned up and said he was in a band and wanted boxes to carry his equipment in. Eric had never heard of Queen and completed the transaction without ever knowing he was dealing with a superstar.

My little sister was so in love with Freddie Mercury. :)

Myself, I am just in awe that such incredible talent existed.

He was beautiful, wasn't he?

He was.

A funny, shy little chap who turned into a god on stage.

Freddie was a sweet guy- at least that's my impression...

Lovely box story.

Sometimes the clergy surprise you. The last-minute one we got for my mother's funeral (in a Boxing-Day blizzard) rose up and gave us Bede's sparrow. Perfect.

Who would want to do the job in these lean times? The fanatics, of course, but also perhaps a remainder of the truly decent and unworldly.

The qualities of the priest/vicar/whatever can make or break a funeral... We had this great guy for my mother's funeral called the Rev. Robert Montgomery. When he launched forth into the spiel about 'My Father's house has many mansions' his voice boomed out...

I always compare the delivery at every funeral I attend, and Rev Bob's has been the best by far, every time to date...
