On our way down south we stopped off at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge to see their (misleadingly titled) exhibition Vermeer's Women.

It's built around the Louvre's loan of The Lacemaker. It contains four paintings by Vermeer- and aims to put him in context as a genre painter. The revelation of the exhibition is an artist I'd never come across before- Jacobus Vrel- whose pictures of women in high, empty rooms are wonderfully strange.

A lot of that Dutch stuff is beautiful. BTW I have been banned by the Indy again (third time). Giving up on the SOBs and will now publish and be damned!

It always amazes me that 17th century Holland produced so many
excellent painters.

Silly old Indy! You show 'em!

A lot of talent for a small area. (Whether that applies to 17th C Holland or Indy activists I leave to you). Happy New Year!
