poliphiloOn our way down south we stopped off at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge to see their (misleadingly titled) exhibition Vermeer's Women.
It's built around the Louvre's loan of The Lacemaker. It contains four paintings by Vermeer- and aims to put him in context as a genre painter. The revelation of the exhibition is an artist I'd never come across before- Jacobus Vrel- whose pictures of women in high, empty rooms are wonderfully strange.
