He looks and glowers like a young Marlon Brando. When he first meets our heroine (in the biology class) he claps his hand across his mouth as if afraid his teeth might leap out of his gums and embed themselves in her neck. All through the movie his face writhes and his eyes pop with desire. "Don't trust me," he tells her, but she knows she can, because he's such a gentleman.

Not since Brief Encounter has so much mileage been wrung out of a pair of lovers not doing it.

And all the while the water falls as rain or drifts as mist between the tall pines or lies about the ground in puddles.

The Brief Encounter comparison is interesting. I've always found the Leslie Howard character a bit of a creep, too, and so with Edward "I like to watch you sleep" Cullen.

I suppose that makes Jacob the crossword-loving husband (the true hero of the film)?

Trevor Howard reportedly asked David Lean, "Why doesn't he just fuck her?"

It's hard to come up with a satisfactory answer.

It's the tween equivalent of a one-hander, sounds like.

I guess.

Nothing so sexy as delayed gratification.

its a mormon being romantic?

book 3 when she's learning about werewolves and legends
its better no pretend sex

the scene "i'm special" in the wood is way too long and bogus

they're not vampires think they're werebears-
"my brother loves to eat grizzlies"

is that environmentally correct i ask you?

i've not seen the movies.

"the host" the beggining of the next series is not an improvement

The movie is quite well done, I think- and- I suspect- an improvement on the book.

i hope so-

the book is more like
i'm not a vampire-i am around in daytime, i don't eat(when you see it.
i just live for ever-because i say so.
i don't sleep but you can't tell that
because you are asleep.

seems like a big farce

"He lay perfectly still in the grass, his shirt open over his sculpted, incandescent chest, his scintillating arms bare."

It's almost tempting to read the book, just to see if it's all as supremely as awful as that quote.

Seems like she thinks he's hot....

Well, admittedly the weather really IS like that in the location where they filmed. But the rest of it? I won't bother with the movie, because the book - I only read the first one - were SO STUPID. And to say RPatt looks like a young Brando is giving him a WAY better compliment than he deserves.

Yeah, but he does look like Brando- sometimes quite startlingly so.

I haven't read the book (wild horses wouldn't drag me...) but I rather enjoyed the film (for all the silliness). There's a powerful romantic/erotic idea at the heart of it.
