Back in March the PM hazarded that it'd take us three months to get on top of CV19. "Three months," I thought, "But that's all the way to June."

And now it's September.

And the PM is saying he hopes we'll be able to celebrate Christmas in the traditional way but he's not making any promises...

I remember that day in March when we packed up our work things to take home; one of my coworkers who is a bit naive asked our supervisor "are we going to telework ALL WEEK?"

Ah, simpler times.

Those times- simpler or not- won't be coming back. We've entered a new age. People I respect have been saying that this is one of the great historical watersheds- and when we look back we'll think, "That was tough, but it was a privilege to live through it." And we'll be sharing our covid stories the way earlier generations talked about the wars they fought.

I wonder how long after 1918 people shared influenza stories, before that pandemic became just a page in the history books. I never heard it mentioned in any family stories, even from grandparents who were alive then.

I doubt that they did. The flu pandemic was overshadowed by the Great War- even though it killed more people. My bro in law has researched the period and says it's not something that got written about. There are many, many war books and hardly any about the flu.

Books about the Spanish 'flu are only just beginning to appear now.

That has a little to do with all those hundredth anniversaries.
