That Accounts For It

It's unusual for us to hear human voices we can't account for out here among the fields but just now there was a burst of singing- male voices, loud but indecipherable- coming from I'm not sure where. Possibly from the big house, possibly from the road.

"Have we won the football?" asked Ailz.

(I'd forgotten all about it but England were playing Germany at Wembley for a place in the quarter finals.)

"I've no idea," I said, "But it's possible."

She did a quick search- and indeed we had. Two-nil.
