This one is a bildungsroman which starts out light and witty and then does- other things. Our narrator is an intelligent 13 year old with just a hint of Aspergers who reminds me of the narrator in Mark Hadden's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Bet Tremain got there first.
