Things weren't getting any better so we went to A & E and- after various tests- they admitted her. She's now on a surgical assessment ward. Later this morning she's going for ultrasound. As she understands it, they're planning to give the antibiotics time to do their work and, they don't they'll take her into surgery and whip the gall bladder out.

We're normally together 24/7. It's odd not to have her here. I'm finding lots of little jobs to do to keep me busy until this afternoon- when I get to visit.

Thanks. She's overwhelemed by all the love and support. Me too.

And she is being taken very good care of. This experience has made me a big fan of the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Thanks. It looks like she'll be in over the weekend now- but perhaps it's as well- we apparently have a cold snap of Ice Age intensity heading our way.

Eep. I hope there's some good news this afternoon. Meanwhile, get the house looking nice to welcome Ailz home!

She had an ultrasound examination this afternoon (I was there) and it confirms there's inflammation of the gall bladder.

Heh-heh, I'm not exactly famous for my housekeeping, but I'm doing my best. :)

Even when it's something fairly trivial like this, it's always dreadful to have one's loved ones in hospital. Quite possibly worse than going into hospital oneself.

Giver her my love and best wishes, won't you? And in the meantime force the zoo to keep you company!

The rabbit is great comapny. (I discovered a patch behind the furniture today where he's worn a hole in the carpet with his "burrowing"

Best wishes to Ailz and I hope they get some resolution to this quickly. This gall bladder business is just no fun. I went through this hospitalization stuff recently myself with Anders and the silence in one's home can be quite deafening, can't it?

Thanks.

I'm alone in the house right now and , yes, deafening is the right word.

But Joe will be here later this evening....

Tony, this is a good thing, honest. I had mine out last year, after 3 days of being unable to keep anything, even water, down. There's an adjustment period of a few months, which made me feel like a newborn, but I've been fine since.

It's interesting to me that they are being so cautious. American medicine is pretty surgery-happy, I guess. This is a fairly common surgery for women in their 40's and 50's, especially heavier women.

Thank you. This is very reassuring.

I hope they operate. Otherwise, sooner or later there will be a recurrence- and I wouldn't want her to have to go through all this again.

Gall bladder surgery is much, much easier nowadays.

Please tell Ailz that once I had mine out, I haven't had a bit of trouble--not a twinge--for 25 years now.

Much love to you both.

Jackie

Thanks, Jackie.

Yes, I'm told that in some cases they perform surgery and send the patient home the same day. I doubt if that will happen with Ailz, though they're moving fast.

From: [identity profile] karenkay.livejournal.com
Here, the "standard" for when you can send someone home is whether they can have a movement on their own, or, depending, on whether they have been able to fart. I was anxious to get out of the hospital (no insurance) so I did my Reentry To The World of Pooping on my own. I don't think I'd choose to do that again--I had absolutely no control at first, which is the newborn thing. And no intimation that it was going to happen AT THAT MOMENT. But after the first day, things were much better. So, while I know you miss her terribly, staying in the hospital longer is better, to make sure that everything's working right.

Gall bladder surgery is pretty routine these days. One of the profs I work for had his out last year on Christmas break - he went into the hospital on Tuesday morning, they did the 'crochet hook' surgery (they cut two small holes and essentially pull the gall bladder out, cut it off, stitch it) he spent one day 'resting' and he was back to work.

Meantime, the best of the best vibrations to Ailz. It's no fun being in the hospital EVER.

much love to you as well.

Thank you so much,

Yes, everyone tells me it's routine minor surgery. I hope the surgeons go ahead. If they don't this trouble will eventually recur and I would want Ailz to suffer like this again.

But, yeah, gall bladder surgery is a routine business.

Thanks.
