Question Everything

When I was at theological college I was taught to question everything- but with this sadistic twist, that I was supposed to retain a belief in the core truths of Christianity.

The resurrection for instance. It was impossible, unprovable, woefully documented and yet somehow obviously, shiningly true.

I couldn't do it. But I tried. Next time you hear a preacher giving it that good old Henry V at the gates of Harfeur whallop, remember this- that it's himself he's trying to convince.

But thank you, thank you, thank you, reverend gentlemen, for teaching me how to doubt.

That's right. And the consequence is that I'm not enormously rich....
