Question Everything
May. 3rd, 2004 10:41 amWhen I was at theological college I was taught to question everything- but with this sadistic twist, that I was supposed to retain a belief in the core truths of Christianity.
The resurrection for instance. It was impossible, unprovable, woefully documented and yet somehow obviously, shiningly true.
I couldn't do it. But I tried. Next time you hear a preacher giving it that good old Henry V at the gates of Harfeur whallop, remember this- that it's himself he's trying to convince.
But thank you, thank you, thank you, reverend gentlemen, for teaching me how to doubt.
