Pies

We have a lot of apples this year- and a lot of apples means a lot of pies. I've made three so far.

The first had nothing in it but apples- and was a bit dull.

The second had a handful of dried dates thrown in and was rich and mellow.

The third had ginger and blackberries- and was pretty good too. It's remarkable how much flavour there is in blackberries.

I haven't added sugar to any of them. No need.

Lamb and apple go together for a savoury pie. And some traditional Cornish pasties have meat and veg at one end, and dessert at the other.

Lamb really needs something sharp to offset the fattiness.
