We received a belated Christmas card this morning featuring a woodcut by Eric Gill- the sculptor and polemicist- who was also a sex abuser of Savilian shamelessness. Apparently the dodginess of the artist hasn't tainted the art.

Same seems to be true of the movies of Roman Polanski.

It's a generous doctrine. I like it. We should apply it across the board.

So, are you ready?

All together now,

"Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down..."

We have a giant sculpture by Gill in our university building foyer, depicting Jesus ejecting the money lenders.

I have a little book on art by Gill. It's very fierce. He hates the modern world, loves Catholicism and the Middle Ages...

Rolf is the king of the novelty song- or was- since his oeuvre no longer officially exists.

There is a parody entitled: 'Bestiality's Best'!

I'll leave it to your own imagination! :o)

I think I'll try not to imagine it, thank you very much. :)

Much much worse than Saville - his own daughters?
I'm not making excuses for Saville, but I there was a considerable difference in the two cultures in which they lived

I can't get my head round Gill. I've tried and I just can't.

What did he think he was doing?

It's not just what he might have thought he was doing.
It''s also - how did he get away with it ?

His family were under his thumb, his friends were loyal and beyond the inner circle who knew?

And his own dog, apparently.

And his son-in-law. basically anything that moved (or didn't)

Although, unlike Savile (allegedly), he stopped short of necrophilia.

Strange were the themes I had in my dreams,
Nick Teen and Al K. Hall!

Phil Spector's murder conviction doesn't seem to have prompted a purge of his work from the airwaves.

Given that the composer Gesualdo da Venosa (1560-1613) who murdered his wife and her lover after catching them in flagrante still gets airtime, should we be surprised?
