Big kerfuffle just now: A bunch of crows mobbing a heron. Do crows have anything to fear from a heron? I wouldn't have thought so.

The raspberries are ripe. I started picking them yesterday. We have currants coming on- red and black (I picked a few). Also gooseberries.

One of the paths into the kitchen garden had become impassable. I cleared it this morning- and took two barrow loads of clippings to the compost heap.

A murder of crows needs a siege of herons.

I thought you were making that up about a siege of herons.

Well I never!

A heron would take crow chicks if the chance offered. One fallen from the nest, say.

That was also my thought. Also it may just be competition for food sources. Crows can't fish like herons, but will probably eat frogs etc that they find near water and herons will be after these too.

I guess most predators are opportunistic feeders.

that's the second time this week someone has mentioned crows.

We are getting messages that the strawberries are ready. They will be scarce this year because of the rain.

Funny that!

We have a glut of fabulous strawberries due to the mild, wet Winter.

We have a lot of crows roosting in the trees round here.

When did gooseberries become rare and exotic? The greengrocer had some this morning, but one box cost more than two boxes of blueberries, and I passed.

They seem to have gone out of fashion. I don't know why. I love them.

Might you be able to leave a few berries for the bunnies? They're absolutely delightful treats for rabbits, but in such short supply in the wild.

I'm sure they're helping themselves. There's nothing to stop them.
