I rang Mary to say my mother wouldn't be going to the WI and we talked about the weather- as English people do. She told me all the little animals in the children's zoo at The Hop Farm had drowned in the Christmas floods. Only the llamas and ponies were saved. Her son lives in Yalding beside a road that flooded. If one more 4X4 had tried to drive through it- he said- the house would have been swamped.

It rained overnight and the paths are under water again.

I wonder if we're going to get any snow this winter?

Big dump of snow on the US east coast overnight and that's often a first indication.

You may remember that the real brrrr factor came late last year...........

Our neighbour just flew in from Boston Mass- shortly before snow closed the airport.

You'd think they might have had people on duty who could have effectd a rescue.

My feelings exactly. If I were a person that was responsible for those animals, I would have gotten in there and rescued them myself! What is wrong with people?

Who knows?

The flooding happened over Christmas. We drove past on Christmas Day and the whole site was under water. It's an events venue- they host gigs and festivals and suchlike (Bob Dylan plays there when he's in Britain). You'd think they'd have had staff on the premises.

Even if they didn't have a "staff on premises", someone needs to be there every single day to feed and care for the animals. You cannot have animals without that. Of course, it doesn't always have to be the same person (as, one person working 7 days a week), but someone must be there, usually in the morning and late afternoon.

Furthermore, if I were one of those people, and I realized it was going to be that kind of rain, even if I wasn't "on the clock", I would have gone to check on the animals. But, bottom line, the OWNERS should have gone to check on the animals.

This is just completely unacceptable, in my view anyway.

That's horrible, about the little creatures. I said "No!" out loud.

Not at all surprised Yalding is awash.

It's a terrible shame.

I heard about the sad news of the animals at the Hop Farm and am disgusted that there was not enough staff to save them all if possible. I hope that we do get away from the snow and ice this year.
