I rang Mary to say my mother wouldn't be going to the WI and we talked about the weather- as English people do. She told me all the little animals in the children's zoo at The Hop Farm had drowned in the Christmas floods. Only the llamas and ponies were saved. Her son lives in Yalding beside a road that flooded. If one more 4X4 had tried to drive through it- he said- the house would have been swamped.
It rained overnight and the paths are under water again.
I wonder if we're going to get any snow this winter?

Date: 2014-01-04 09:03 am (UTC)The flooding happened over Christmas. We drove past on Christmas Day and the whole site was under water. It's an events venue- they host gigs and festivals and suchlike (Bob Dylan plays there when he's in Britain). You'd think they'd have had staff on the premises.

Date: 2014-01-04 06:15 pm (UTC)Furthermore, if I were one of those people, and I realized it was going to be that kind of rain, even if I wasn't "on the clock", I would have gone to check on the animals. But, bottom line, the OWNERS should have gone to check on the animals.
This is just completely unacceptable, in my view anyway.
