We've been talking about getting power of attorney over my mother's affairs for a while now. (By "we" I mean the generation below hers). Yesterday we took the first steps. It makes me feel like a conspirator.

Yes. My parents took the same decision when my grandmother descended into dementia and my grandfather essentially gave up. He knows they have PoA, but I don't think he gets the seriousness of it.

My mother is very accepting of what's happening to her. It's as if she's in a dream.

It made things much easier with my father in law. For one thing, we made sure the bills got paid.

My mother's been pretty good about paying bills, but i know it's a source of anxiety to her.
