It was funny and clever and exciting, but I just don't feel any connection to Matt Smith's Doctor or the tiresomely uxorious Ponds. I loved Moffat's writing when he was working under RTD's direction, but now he's running the show I'm feeling emotional manipulation where there used to be heart. The only episode I've really liked since he took charge was the one Neil Gaiman wrote. I don't offer this as any sort of definitive put-down. I'm happy for everyone who loves Matt Smith; but this is your era, not mine. I've got to admit Tom Baker (heresy, heresy!) didn't do much for me either. The show is bigger than any of its incarnations and I'll continue watching because I love the mythos.

My son told me, "You never forget your first doctor."
For me, that was Christopher Eccleston. I wept when he was replaced by David Tennant, but I gradually -- gradually came to accept him in the role.
But Matt Smith? I feel no connection to him whatsoever and it's so very disappointing because I truly do love the show.

Not quite true. I have very vague memories of Troughton, but recall Pertwee's arrival with perfect clarity.

I go all the way. I missed the very first episode for some reason or other, but caught the second. My first Doctor was Hartnell and- while I certainly haven't forgotten him- I can't say I like him very much.

This was exactly my arc, too.
