A Pennine Crag That Is Forever Amboise

We were high up on the Yorkshire side of the Pennines, on a winding country road above Hebden Bridge, when we turned a corner and this extraordinary building came into view. No, it's not a Victorian arm's manufacturer's's country retreat; it's the Boulder Clough Methodist Church. In it's present shape it dates from the 1890s. I imagine the chap who commissioned it (newly returned from a cruise down the Loire) pushing a postcard of Chambord or Amboise under his architect's nose and saying, "I reckon we'll have a bit o' that, lad."
