That bird I thought was a swallow- I couldn't have been more wrong. It was back today, perching on the wire that crosses the back yard (it was the wire-perching that fooled me.)  This time it lingered and I got my glasses on it- and it turns out to be a goldfinch.  

They're not rare, but you don't see too many of them round here. My bird book says they're gregarious so where there's one there'll be many. Hooray!

We have what is called the "Western Lesser Goldfinch." Love these little birds. They usually hide out in the foliage of my small backyard but from time to time venture to the front and the lantana bush that I look out onto when I work. They raise my spirits every time I see them.
