It must be heart-breaking to be Rupert Murdoch. All those people who have let him down! It's what the rich and famous have been saying for centuries: you just can't get the staff. You delegate responsibility to people you thought you could trust and they take advantage of your hands-off approach by cutting you out of the loop. Then they break the law and cover up their wrong-doing without you (or your son) ever suspecting a thing. You feel such a victim. Who'd be a media mogul? It's a mug's game. You're just so powerless!

Yes, it's almost as bad as being a cabinet minister! There you are, being scrupulously quasi-judicial, and your special adviser (for whose conduct you are responsible under the Ministerial Code) goes off and gives privileged information, a nod and a wink to one side, all without your knowledge!

You can't get the staff. Luckily, fall-guys are a drug on the market.

By the way, did you catch him complaining about the paparazzi? It reminded me of Christof, the creator of the virtual world in The Truman Show, who jealously guards his privacy while denying it to others.

It's unbelievable what went on under Jeremy Hunt's nose. Poor man. He must feel utterly betrayed.

The Truman Show was prophetic. When it first came out I thought it pretty far-fetched; I don't any more.

I look at an old reptile like Murdoch and lose patience with our notions of justice in a liberal, democratic society. Just drag him outside, shoot him in the head and be done with it. Dick Cheney is another, though a quick death for him would be rather unfair.

Such men consider themselves above the law, indeed for all practical purposes are above the law. I say we should honor their wish and deal with them accordingly.

Murdoch is beginning to reap, reap, reap what he sowed. I don't think his life is going to get any easier from this point on.

Cheyney is (alas) one of the untouchables- along with Kissinger, Bush, Blair...the list goes on and on.

Dick Cheney has recently had a heart transplant. Just what I always thought. Darth Vader to the max.

Yep. I keep waiting for the heart to reject the evil bastard, but so far nothing.

Cheney, and to a much lesser extent Little Boots, are my biggest gripe with Obama. I understand that the 27%, on behalf of the 1%, would burn the country to the ground before seeing justice served, but there's a part of me that would have been sorely tempted to do it anyway.

Bush is untouchable, yes, but I don't care so much about him and never have. He was always an empty suit, "all hat and no cattle". That was his appeal to the Republican party. You might as well try to hold a booger-eatin' moron like Sarah Palin accountable for her actions. Cheney was the puppeteer on behalf of himself, his class, and the military-industrial complex. I actually have far more seething contempt for the ignorant fuckwits that voted for Bush than the fuckwit himself.

Mr. Murdoch needs a friend like Andrew Young was to John Edwards. Someone who is willing to say his illegitimate child is 'his'. Someone who is willing to let HUGE amounts of money pass through his bank account for use by his 'friend', to buy the mistress a car...

Murdoch gets through "friends" at quite a rate. Yesterday at the Leveson Enquiry he threw a number of them to the wolves- and they're not best pleased...
