When the attack came, the first target was Falluja General Hospital. The New York Times explained why: "The offensive also shut down what officers said was a propaganda weapon for the militants: Falluja General Hospital, with its stream of reports of civilian casualties." If there were no hospital, there would be no visible casualties; if there were no visible casualties, there would be no international outrage, and all would be well.

what's next, targeting elementary schools?

it's funny how the u.s. is often the first country to point its finger at another country when they violate the "rules of war", but apparently those laws don't apply to the u.s.

It's beyond satire.

A nauseating notion.

I suppose I believed- even after Vietnam- that there were some things the armies of a Western democracy just wouldn't contemplate doing.

Oh, but we're only doing it to help the Iraqis, you know. It's for their own good.

And they're so ungrateful.

Without the news on this week, I didn't know about this until your post!

I read just now via Google:

"US troops are priming themselves for a possible full-scale assault on the Iraqi city of Fallujah, as their commanders warn them they are likely to face suicide bombers if the assault goes ahead."

What on earth? I cannot believe this--and we are attacking hospitals? Trauma units?

How the world must hate us.

Falluja has been taken now, but lots of the Islamic fighters got out before the main assault began and they've taken the war to other Iraqi towns.

100% correct! Doesn't it make you nostalgic for the good old days of Vietnam when they tried to bury or burn the bodies instead of just shuffling them off to the side?

Yes, that is dismal, as is the US's admittance that its postponement of this military action until after the US election (and pretty much publicly announcing that they were doing this) has let the targets of the invasion shift their more critical resources to other places. So not only are we closing hospitals, we're closing them to secure a location that has lost a lot of its military value.

Mission accomplished.

It is the wrong war. It is an unwinnable war. It is a criminally mishandled war.

Chuck D was being interviewed last night. He said Bush is the world's number one gangster.
