Brown Furniture
Sep. 27th, 2011 12:05 pmAccording to the antiques 'n' auctions shows we watch around lunchtime, "brown" furniture is out of fashion. For instance a beautifully proportioned Regency corner cabinet which would have sold for £900 a few years back now sells for £200-300. I love the stuff. If I had the money (which of course I don't) I'd fill the house with it.
Ailz came to the door just now (I was in the yard cutting the hedge) to tell me she was ready to concede I'd been right to replace the big blond dining room table (chipboard and veneer) with a little dark brown one (solid oak). Of course I was!

Date: 2011-09-28 10:12 am (UTC)These days, I could fill even this monster of a house with antique furniture for very little money. As a local dealer told me, the people that normally buy the really nice pieces are all in nursing homes or graveyards.
