When Ailz started talking about sheltered accomodation her father threw back his head and went,"Nooooooooo!"

So that's an end to that-

For the time being, anyway...

Are "sheltered accommodations" what we call "assisted living" ? My late mother had incredibly complex medical issues plus cognitive failure, but she still fought assisted living tooth and nail.

I'm not sure. What I mean by sheltered accomodation is a self-contained apartment with a warden on site.

That's it. Except that the residents have the option of taking meals in a common dining room, and the medical folks come around with the daily meds.

There are certainly homes in Britain where those things are available.

Where I live, sheltered accommodation can include own bungalow with alarm bell and/or warden. Some of the wardens are on site, but others monitor several sites, making a daily visit at different times of the day
If meals and are provided (iblanchard), that would be "very sheltered", but not all "very sheltered" premises include a med round

"for the time being" being the operative phrase. Mighty resistance is a very common initial response.

In his place I'd put up mighty resistance too.

On the other hand, I have a friend here whose mother-in-law has just said "let's give it a try!"

We have two people to consider here. My mother-in-law would be willing to give it a whirl, I think. She and Ailz continued to discuss the issue dispassionately while Eric emoted in the corner.

If it was for me and it was assisted living that was being proposed I would probably be open to it, since one is not a prisoner in those facilities. However, if "sheltered accommodation" is a euphemism for a nursing home, then well, no wonder he objects!

He heard it as "nursing home" (or pretended to) but that isn't what was meant.
