So many wonderful buildings to visit...

And I love that the Gatehouse appears to be the least fortified part of the castle.

The door does however have loopholes in it for muskets.

You have reminded me that I want to revisit Stokesay. I called in there a few years ago en route from SE to NE Wales, but didn't have time to do the castle and just looked in the church.

The best views of the castle are from the churchyard.

Thanks.

It was a first visit for me. I don't know why this isn't one of the most famous sites in Britain. It's certainly one of the most picturesque.

I love that place. Last time I was there, the vicar asked if I wouldn't mind reading the responses at Evensong, as no one else was there. He didn't object to a heathen clerk, so I obliged. Lovely words, lovely setting.

The sun shone in the West Midlands for the three days we were away- then slid back behind the clouds.

In the happenstance way of these things, I just came across the fact that Stokesay was the setting used by Kevin Crossley-Holland as inspiration for his excellent Arthur trilogy. Now I must certainly visit!
