I know I said we weren't going to rename our female rabbits that turned out to be male, but we've since thought better of that casually arrived at decision. They are now known as Tolkien and Trigonometry. Ailz came up with Tolkien- something to do with hobbits and living in burrows- and I came up with Trigonometry because I thought it went superbly well with Tolkien. Also it was the first thing that came into my head- and  sometimes the first thought is the best thought.

Tosh and Trigonometry have bonded- leaving Tolkien out in the cold- and subject to random violence. For a while we had him in a separate pen, but now we've gone the whole hog and moved him outdoors- where he has a shed as a burrow and the whole, well-walled yard to run about in. He seems to be happy. If this arrangement works out we may eventually get him a (properly certified) female companion.

Here Here he is, doing the rounds of his new domain.

Dillinger. He looks like John Dillinger. RIP.

I see what you mean.

But Dillinger was meaner.

Have you given a .45 to the rabbit? Well, have you?

They are now known as Tolkien and Trigonometry.

I really like that. They sound like a poem or a band.

*nod* - or the main title of an academic publication. The full version could be something like Tolkien and Trigonometry: journeys through four-dimensional space-time. I can well see that being awarded some major research funding.

It has a certain ring to it...

Are those some paperbound books in a stack to his right? Are they there for him to devour? ;-)

I was sitting out reading. Those are my library books. He might well have eaten them if I hadn't whisked them away.

It was actually because he was the middle one - and into earth - therefore Middle Earth - Tolkein

Simples ;-)

He's a very good looking bunny and would make some lucky girl a good "mate" (seeing as he can't really mate). He really is very pretty.

It's a shame he's fallen out with his brother. As children they were inseparable.

You could run a caption competition - what is he thinking? He looks suspicious to me - suspicious of us humans, I mean.

He doesn't like humans very much. They pick him up and put him in boxes and take him to the vet. These are a few of his least favourite things.

He's beautiful, and looks like he knows something the other rabbits don't. Sometimes being left to your own devices isn't such a bad thing...

Rabbits are supposed to be social beings who need the company of other rabbits. My experience of them suggests otherwise.

When you've been gone for a while and come home, do your rabbits run up to you to greet you, or do they care?

The only one we've ever had who behaves like that is Tosh. He likes to be stroked. All the rest regard human beings as creatures who are best avoided.

And you kindly offered him a small library, I see!

His life seems ideal--sky, books, solitude.
