Yesterday we made the back room habitable. That's where I sit most of the time. I even mopped the floor.

Peter turned up on the doorstep unexpectedly yesterday evening. He said Odi had told him we needed furniture shifting- as indeed we did. He moved three armchairs downstairs and I helped him move a chest of drawers upstairs.

Last night I finished decorating the tree.

This morning the engineer from Howdens came and fixed  the oven.

Also the  binmen came and emptied the bin- I wasn't sure they would, what with the ice and snow. Actually they only half emptied it because the stuff at the bottom was frozen in place.

I've just glanced out the window. There are snowflakes wandering down.

Good about the rubbish! Ours is still here since last Friday, and we are completely cut off - no post or other deliveries, no buses or taxis - we got another 10 inches (official announcement) in 24 hours on top of what we already had!

The binmen missed one week- at the time of the last big snowfall, but they made up for it by having a double collection the week after.

I trust you're warm and well-fed....

We were already expecting an extra collection - after Christmas Day and after New Year's Day - but the problem is that they won't take anything that isn't in a bin - and my single occupant bin is already full
Yes, I'm warm and fed - albeit boringly, because I was expecting Christmas treats elsewhere - but i trust that I'll benefit from post-Christmas special offers, and I've saved money by not going away
Things are looking up , today - no binmen, but other council workmen have been clearing snows, and a bus has been seen.

I get a little paranoid about the bins. I like to live on a tidy street. When the bins start overflowing I start having visions of squalor, decay and giant rats.

Ailz thinks I'm silly.

I'm glad you're comfortable. Like you I plan to get festive after Christmas, when the snow and ice disappear.

Thank you - yes, I worry about bins too - but they are at least under a thick layer of snow, so more hygienic than they might otherwise be

Things are happening and you can use your new oven!
How nice of Peter to come by and help with the furniture.

Yes, it was good of him. He's a big lad.

Phew! You need an oven this time of year, glad that is sorted out. Home sweet home.

We have two ovens now. Neither of them huge. I'll need them both to cook the Christmas dinner.

What do you do most of the time, Dad? What's a typical day for you?

I get up. I make breakfast. I read the papers. I deal with emails and LJ. I make lunch. After lunch I read a book and have a brief nap. Periodically I check back on line to see what's going down. Sometimes I get into on-line conversations. I make tea. I watch TV or read. I go to bed. That's the basic structure.

Of course there are things like shopping and cleaning that have to be fitted in. Basically I'm a house-husband.

Happy Christmas.
