The original projection- not that I ever really believed it- was for the work to be finished in six weeks. At the start of week seven we have two joiners on site- one laying laminate flooring in the bedrooms, the other assembling units in the kitchen. A third guy is gofering between them.

Week seven is the week our tenure on the storage unit runs out, which is why we're bringing stuff back into the house. The problem is finding anywhere to stash it.

I don't think we'll be bothering with a Christmas tree this year.

I hope everyone realises that your toy castles and so on are back from storage.

But I can't do anything with them.....

You should see how much dust- much of it saw-dust- is on that mantle.

It's a nice bowl. It was a wedding present.

Where is Mike Holmes when you need him?

Not here, for sure.

These guys are doing a pretty good job, I think, but they're so slow.....

I'm sure it will all be lovely when it's finished and well worth all the stress. It's just hard to cope with the disruption while all the work is in progress.

Who needs a Chrismas tree anyway? Some years I have one, some I don't bother, and I've given up buying a real one. I've used an artificial one for many years now.

That scene looks familiar...I think all renovations are first cousins.

Hang in there. It will all come together soon, I think.
The biggest stress for me was the chaos of having nowhere to put things so I understand what you must be feeling.

We have an artificial one which is currently in storage- at least I think it is.

Yes indeed. Every available space is either full of things or having to be kept clear so the men can work in it.

That's a smashing fireplace!

We bought it to replace a horrible ranch-style fireplace that was totally out of keeping with the house.

Sounds like a good decision..

I just string lights around any more, sans tree -- and that's what I like best anyway. :)

Sounds good.

I don't suppose we'll be doing anything this Christmas except trying to get the house back into shape.

"Ranch-style fireplace"? But, from the front at least, the building seemed vaguely Tudorish, based upon what little I know of residential architecture.

Yes. The ranch-style fireplace had been put in during the post-war period (not by us!) The house itself dates from 1909-10.

There is no accounting for taste or lack thereof. Ranch-style architecture is generally an abomination and, over here, ubiquitous. It is hard to believe that the genre derives from Frank Lloyd Wright.
