I like Sherlock. It's got panache. It's exciting, funny, clever and made with loving respect for the source material.  Comberbatch and Freeman are terrific.

I also like Rev- which ended its run last night with a episode of Graham Greeneish intensity- in which our hero- never ceasing to be amusing- turned into a whisky priest and was saved by a dying woman. At the end I found myself saying "Gosh" to no-one in particular- maybe to God. Tom Hollander and the rest of the cast are terrific.

So that's two new BBC shows  I really, really like. Does this represent some kind of mini-renaissance?

I didn't know they were doing a new one! If I hate (with a raging passion) the Jeremy Brett Sherlock, will I like this one, do you think?

This updates Holmes to the present day- and is the brainchild of Stephen Moffat (the Dr Who supremo) and Mark Gattis the writer/comedian.

It's very unlike the Brett Holmes (which, incidentally, I love).

I gather I'm in a minority when it comes to Brett, but I'm okay with that. :)

Hrm, sounds fun! (I don't mind it if I'm not holding them to canon to start with.)

The stories are new, but full of canonical elements. I think Sir Arthur would approve.

I've missed most of Rev. Kept forgetting it was on sadly, but loving Sherlock! I was initially dubious about moving it to modern times, but they have done it so well that I am really enjoying it! It's also good to see Una Stubbs in something again. Last time I really saw her regularly she was Aunt Sally to Jon Pertwee's Worzel Gummidge! That was more years ago than I care to admit to. LOL

I've always liked Una Stubbs. She has done far too little. I think she could have been one of our top comedy actors if she had worked more.
