I woke with a headache. It felt like there was a draught on the back of my neck last night. So where did that come from? It wasn't there the night before.

There's a dump for disused fridges about four miles from here. Someone torched it last night and nearby residents have been told to keep indoors. Could the headache have been caused by breathing the fumes?

I have vague memories of a ragged, headachey dream. Something about creating an artificial lake to stop a church from flooding. I get a lot of churchy dreams. Mostly they involve me turning up late to lead some important service and then not being able to find my place in the Prayer Book. They're a variant on the dream that actors get about being on stage and not knowing one's lines.

It's a dim, grey day. I wonder how much of the cloud is fridge-smoke. The good news is that little birds are using the bird seed dispenser. I saw 'em just now. A sparrow and a blue-tit. Yay!

I hope your headache is going away! What is the latest on the fridge fire? Has the restriction been lifted?

I'm glad the neighborhood birds have found you. They need to find good spots for the winter.

We have a chickadee birdhouse near our house, with honeysuckle climbing its pole to hide the house from predators; it's near the birdfeeder, so every spring chickadees raise their babies there. I think they like the short commute to the feeder and back to their hidden house.

Chickadee- that's an actual bird? I thought it was just a slangy term of affection. Didn't W.C. Fields use the phrase "my little chickadee"?

I haven't heard any more about the fire. These kind of conflagrations tend to burn for days- with the firemen standing round, hosing them down and waiting.

The headache is better, thank you. Ailz says I need to get my arthritis medicine strengthened. I suspect- though I don't like to admit it- that she's right.

You know, I never got that dream, not even when I was active in the theatre. My dreams along those lines always involved showing up for final exams to realize I hadn't been to class the entire semester, hadn't turned in my papers, and absolutely wasn't ready for test-taking whatsoever.

That suggests to me that you must have been really happy in the theatre. I was always out of place in the Church and the thought of going back (they wouldn't have me of course) fills me with dread
