I needn't have worried about the honeysuckle. Honeysuckle is hardy. Having been cut back from the wall by the workmen earlier this year, it has taken off in the other direction with renewed vigour, using the holly trees as a climbing frame. There's not enough of it to create a cloud of scent- there never was- but if you stand around in the backyard you keep getting wafts of it.

Our summer house is in an area where honeysuckle grows rampant in gardens as well as in the forest. I think we have about a dozen in the garden, though only one of them is really large (2 meters tall, 2 meters wide and a meter deep at the fullest point). And it's just coming into bloom, so I'm really looking forward to the scent of the flowers on a day with blazing sunshine and no wind...

I suspect it will need a rather rude cutting-down in autumn, though, as it seems rather unbalanced. Must remember to take cuttings from it and see how they fare.

Lovely.

Our honeysuckle was planted as a cutting 24 years ago. It's not in a brilliant position- it gets very little sun- and it's only now beginning to come into its own.
