Oldham Edge

I went up on Oldham Edge yesterday afternoon.  You leave the hospital by its front entrance, cross the road, go through the newish housing estate- and you're there. As soon as I entered the woodland a couple of foxes got up and lolloped off- one in this direction and one in that. 

Parts of Oldham Edge are in what used to be my parish. It's nearly a quarter century since I left- and I'm not in much danger of being recognised- but I can't wander around up there without feeling like a ghost.

There's a song called 'Owdham Edge' by the Oldham Tinkers. I am currently trying to remember the words, but so far my memory is failing me and I can only remember, 'On Owdham edge the grass is green,' which could be an apt title for this photo! :)

I'm not sure of its status. I've seen housing slowly encroach on it over the past quarter century.

A lovely spot. Reminds me of some relatively local places that draw me to them. I'll have to take some photos and post them.
