Another Weather Report

There's a steady drip outside my window. I just shovelled the snow from our front path- and it came up- surprisingly easily-  in big icy slabs. There's was a snow fall yesterday- but we were on the edge of it and only got a sprinkling.  Cars are moving down the worn channel in the centre of our road with confidence. Today is refuse collection day, but it looks as if the binmen aren't risking it- again.

As long as the garbage remains frozen it will not be a problem. Here's hoping the binmen get back on the job before a serious thaw!
Local experience here in Boston is that the aftermath of a big storm is much worse than the storm itself. Cleanups, fixups, etc., are time consuming, energy-eating, and costly.
The general consensus on this side of the Atlantic (well, here in Boston anyway) was that of deep concern for our British neighbors, who are not as accustomed to this extreme weather as we are. However, we have been admiring the way you all have been dealing with it. We lack so much patience.

Since I posted there's been a bin-van round to collect the food waste- so that's something- in fact the main thing. The general, non-perishable waste can wait.

They haven't put down any grit on your street?
It looks like pedestrians and cars are using the same track in the street.

There's been a shortage of grit- and the Councils have only been treating the main roads.

That's right. The pavements are icy. It's a lot safer to walk in the centre of the street.

We were lucky in that we have a gritted road at each end of our road, so that, even though our road is not gritted, the cars that drive through deposit bits of grit from their tyres, aiding the melt in the road at least. Our pavements are still iced up in places though, and walking in the road is still the getting-around-method-of-choice. We do finally have temps above freezing, and that is helping. It actually rained yesterday (Thur), which made a pleasant, if soggy, change. :-) Did add to the general slippery situation though, sadly.

Our pavements are terrible- at least they were yesterday. It has been raining overnight and there's a chance we'll see the back of this present lot of snow and ice before the next load is dumped on us.

Oh blimey! Have you heard whether we are likely to get more before the winter is over? I have been wondering about that myself. We have heavy rain today which has washed the last of our snow away, except for the occasional lump of snowman remains. My snow lady was down to a torso yesterday, and now she is a bottom. *g*
