Ready For Bed

This morning's post brings me another nightshirt.  That gives me five in all.  I used to sleep naked, but I was feeling the cold  (poor, old chap!) and took to wearing tee shirts. So far, so good- but the tee shirt doesn't go quite far enough. What you want is something that'll cover your cocyx- a spot-  I find- singularly susceptible to draughts.

Are nightshirts strictly a grand-dad thing or do youngsters wear them too?  It's my personal opinion that a nightshirt is a lot cooler than pyjamas.

I love nightshirts, and have worn them off and on since I was in my teens. Actually, The Indian Kurta Pajama seems like the perfect clothing to me!

Yes, a lot of our neighbours wear those. Very comfortable.

Around here, t-shirt and pajama pants is all the rage. Although, in OUR house, we still do naked. (The plan is pj's next to the bed so as not to make the boys feel awkward as they get bigger...)

I actually did an LJ poll on sleepwear a couple months ago, and I don't think a single person mentioned "nightshirt." I hate wearing anything to bed, though I do like the idea of the striped nightcap!

Ailz buys all our stuff on line. She says the latest nightshirt comes from Daxon- a catalogue for "the older person" (she does like to rub it in!)

hm. My grandfather always wore nightshirts (there's a not so funny story of them being dried outside and somehow hornets got folded into them - so he got stung a few times!) My Dad has a couple. But as for men's sleepwear, I couldn't say. BTW - I see Bun back there looking adorable.

I have one. It's flannel, with cat prints - and bedsocks came with it to match. Like you, I need to keep my lower back warm - also my feet get cold. It was a Christmas gift from my friends in Maine, which is the far frozen north of New England. They really know how to beat the cold up there.

Depending on the season, nightshirts or nothing. Pajamas are for the unimaginative.

The dinosaur was given to me- a little embarassingly- by a small child who figured my need was greater than his. I'm afraid it doesn't have a name. Let's give it one. Pinkosaurus!

That's quite charming! You definitely need a night-cap to go with it ---- preferably red flannel with a tassel on the end.

My DH sleeps raw, but has said many times that if he ever becomes more cold sensitive a nightshirt will be his sleepwear of choice. I agree; I like the way they look!

Sometimes I wear pajamas, sometimes nightshirts, sometimes nightgowns, and sometimes nothing. I prefer nothing, only because clothing gets tangled in the bedsheets and annoys the heck out of me. But at least a nightshirt can be moved around more easily than a gown.

I've never been able to sleep nekkid. It's all just too loosey-goosey.

I slept in pajamas as a young mollusk, but as I got older, and particularly through my time in the service, I slept in my unmentionables, with clothes close at hand. The Navy had an annoying tendency to call General Quarters at o'dark thirty with alarming regularity.

And so I still do that now, with the exception of cool weather, for which I have returned to t-shirts and pajama bottoms.

What's wrong with flannel shorts and a T-shirt? Seems to me that is what MEN wear.

Nightshirt is basically just a big dress. And you're not ready for action! What if a burglar comes in- you can hardly fight them off in a nightshirt.

I started wearing them when I was 22. Admittedly, they're difficult to find, especially in North America. But I agree, the men's nightshirt is the most comfortable thing to sleep in!

Odd piece of trivia...apparently they're the easiest to find in....the Czech Republic!

The night shirt is an old-fashioned garment and the Czech republic is an old-fashioned place. :)
