Curry Mile

There's now actually a banner on a pole in the middle of the road saying, "Welcome to the Curry Mile"- which I don't remember seeing last time I was here-  so what was once an affectionate local nickname is now a brand name with regional- and perhaps national and international- recognition. I'm not sure if I welcome it. The general rule is, tourists in, authenticity out, but things are at an early stage here- and this is still the street where Manchester's Asian community comes to do business- and where outsiders are welcome but not particularly catered for.

But there are changes. The block containing the sweet shop-cum-cafe where Ailz and I went on our very first date has just been pulled down and I've no idea what they're going to put up in its place.
