We went to Llandudno on a coach with Ailz's mother. It's strange; I've lived in the North West for over thirty years and this is my first trip to to North Wales.

Llandudno is the loveliest seaside town I know. An unspoiled early Victorian seafront, curving round a bay, with a high promontory at either end and mountains in the background. I took a lot of pictures. Here are a three to be getting on with

Beautiful! That's quite a dock in the last one. Is that a hotel at the end?

It's strange, but to me that building at the end of the dock looks like it slants downhill a bit, toward the dock.

That's an optical illusion- caued by the angle at which I'm holding the camera.

I thought maybe it was that, but I looked at the line of the top of the water and it seemed parallel with the edges of the photo. It's an illusion, I'm sure, but it's kind of fun. I was imagining putting a marble on the floor of a hallway at one end of the building and having it roll all the way to the other end of the building. *I know I'm silly*

It's the pleasure pier- and the building at the far end houses "amusements".

Oh I see. How interesting! It's a nice looking building.

Actually, i may have read you wrong. The building on the left (is that the one you meant?) is indeed a hotel.

Yes sir, the one on the left is the one I meant.

The long pier in the last picture is amazing. I love how the clouds slant down (or is it up?). And the light...
What an incredibly beautiful place. I love the houses on the mountainside.

The promontory in the background of your photos is the Great Orme, where I live. It's only a baby mountain, but you can get a cable car or tram to the top, which makes it very suitable for non-athletic walkers.

You live on the Great Orme? Oh Wow! One of the things I did yesterday was climb it.

Good for you! I need to go by bus these days. The bus stops at the midway point, where the trams change over for the last stretch

I certainly wouldn't want to make a habit of it. I had to sit down a couple of times to get my breath back before I reached the top.

Amazing! Now I have to ask - how is the name of the town pronounced? Probably nothing at all like it's spelled, if it's typically Welsh!

Actually, this one is quite straightforward. It's pronounced Lan-did-no.

Amazing! A guy who did his residency with my ex was from Wales (but grew up in New Jersey), and when he got married, they had the ceremony in Wales. His (then)fiancé e showed us the name, then pronounced it, and it was nothing like the way it looked!
