I´ve been consulting Google again and apparently the Spanish garden is named that because the wellhead came from Spain. Otherwise, it´s very French in its layout. I´ve seen very similar gardens here in Spain copied from the French.
The stone face looks almost indigenous in nature (Mexican indigenous, perhaps?).
I haven't a clue about the head. The only thing I'm sure of is that it isn't medieval- but it could be almost anything else. The way it's been clumsily mortared into the wall suggests that it's a random thing that caught someone's fancy. It doesn't have to have anything to do with Newstead. It could have been brought back from abroad. it could have been picked up in an antique shop....
And I am a little envious. What does it for me though, is that Japanese Maple. I've been procrastinating about getting one for years. How many years have I waited already? What a dumb thing to do huh?
Gonna do an online search right now and have one shipped to me!
