Ailz's car got broken into  yesterday morning in broad daylight in the middle of town. The thieves smashed  a side window and stole her purse- which had fallen out of her bag and must have been lying on the floor. They were only kids. They took the cash- not very much of it- and left the cards scattered over the pavement, where they were rescued by a friendly neighbourhood dentist. Thank you Dr Hill!

It  was almost certainly the same kids who slouched by when Ailz  returned to the car. For one thing they fitted a witness's descrition of the perps and for another they were sort of smirking among themselves. They asked her if she'd been robbed and one of them turned to his mate in a parody of an elderly wiseacre and commented ,"they're animals these days". Very ironic. Very postmodern.

But we got all the cards back and Ailz's driving license and the biggest inconvenience is having to replace the broken glass.

Pity she didn't respond to them, "Yeah, it's pretty pathetic when a bunch of losers have to stoop to stealing from a disabled woman." But as I said with my recent theft, at least it was only a bit of cash, she got the cards back and nobody was physically hurt.

She thought of saying,"luckily I'm a witch and whoever did this is going to be labouring under an almighty curse"- but of course she didn't think of it until afterwards.

That would have been great! Sorry about the break-in, glad the cards were recovered.

Thanks.

She's discarded her handbag. From now on she's going to be carrying her cash and cards in a belt.

Very ironic. Very postmodern

Very "A Clockwork Orange." When I lived in Los Angeles, the car I currently drive was busted into THREE times, in three different locations, and the dash ripped apart each time to extract the CD player. Infuriating.

Thank God this didn't involve any physical threat to Ailz.

Duh!

I learned not to have great sound in my car after the first time. You slow or somethin'?

Lack of access to my well over 1000 CD collection while commuting 45min to an hour EACH way EVERY day was not an option. That's why you carry auto insurance with a zero deductible.

Three times- that's really annoying!

Yup, toe-rag is a fine old Britishism.

The thieves may have been caught on CCTV, but then again they were probably wearing hoods. I don't really expect them to be brought to justice.

Ailz sends her love back. Me too, of course!

How blatant and brazen! Do they feel so safe that they can laugh about what they have done? Must we take photographs of people in the act before we can do anything?

I assume your insurance will cover the broken glass, but what a shame--more for the children, who feel untouchable and don't understand decent behavior and how to live among people gently.

There may or may not have been security cameras in the area, but the kids would almost certainly have been wearing hoodies.

Yes, we were covered by our insurance. I comfort myself with the thought that most kids go through an anti-social, even criminal, phase and most of them grow out of it.
