The phone rang at 2.30 in the morning.  I tumbled out of bed, thinking, "so who's died this time?", ran the length of  the  splintery landing in my bare naked feet and got a pre-recorded salesman, voice like autumn sunshine, saying, "this call will cost you nothing..."

I should freaking well hope not!

After that we couldn't sleep. So we went downstairs, made a hot drink and watched an Open University programme about John Philip Sousa.

Da Da diddly-dee dee dee dee pom pom pom...

*giggles*

A talk-radio station from my home town had a 'SousAlarm' and 6:35 every morning. Just about everyone I knew set the alarm clocks to it, that was what woke me up every morning. So his music reminds me of pulling my tired teenaged ass out of bed and going to mind numblingly dull high school.

One of the things I hate about Sousa is he's so damn cheerful. I don't think I could bear to deal with him first thing in the morning.

Yes, but, all the more reason to get out of bed and beat on the alarm clock, which I kept across the room from my bed.

A pretty effective way of making yourself get up. :)

The Cowboy Junkies have a fantastic song called Sun comes up, it's Tuesday morning which has a line which says 'Telephone rings, but I don't answer it; everybody knows, good news always sleeps until noon'.

That's very true. No-one rings you up with good news in the middle of the night.

I hate sales calls- but automated ones just add insult to injury.

I was recently rung by my sister to tell me that I was an uncle again; she'd given birth at 2am and thankfully waited until 10am to tell me. :-)
