Dream Word

I woke up from a dream about World War I with a word in my head.

Ha, I thought, maybe I've just solved the mystery of the universe.

But I've Googled the word with all the variant spellings I can think of and it doesn't seem to exist.

Unless, of course,  you know different...

It seems like a name of some kind or possibly a title.

Here it is- Ceausipher.

Nothing shows up in the OED, assuming you haven't already tried there.

I tried Sosipher (which I thought looked promising) and all sorts of other variants- no luck with any of them.:(

Ceaus appears to mean something in French, although the dictionaries I tried did not cooperate, there is a page that mentions it (google); I looked that up because "sipher" immediately made me think of "cypher", although I suppose it could also be related to "siphon"...I think they have the same root anyway.

"Ceaus" appears to be a medieval spelling of the French word for "those".

Otherwise I'm drawing a blank

... I love dreams like that. This word sounds like a name or a title, at first blush, but now I'm not so sure.

I think it's a proper name. After all, it rhymes with Lucifer.

AH! Perhaps someone Angelic, then?

I like the feel of the name, very much.

It's such a good name- I was surprised to find it wasn't real.

Though I suppose it is now.

if you dreamed it, and there is no 'definition' anyplace, you should decide what it means, whether it's a person or a title. It does sound like it could be a title of Someone Important or Holy in one of your stories.

Yes, I think someone called Ceausipher might well turn up in a future Purchas story.

I would try Sanskrit - I think i might be something to do with Sophia which means wisdom in Sanskrit and I believe Greek.

It has echoes- hints- of a number of "legitimate" words. It looks like it ought to mean something, but apparently it doesn't.

I hadn't thought of trying Sanskrit. My first thought was that it felt either French or Roumanian

It's obviously a message about the Pope. It's an anagram of "Curia sheep". :)

He's smuggling messages out; they're holding him prisoner; he wants nothing more than to break the bonds of orthodoxy and go party with the liberation theologians, but if he does the "curia sheep"- those sinister authoritarians- will tell the world about the atrocities of his nazi past...
