 The best thing about the White House is it isn't a palace. it isn't Versailles (God forbid!) or Blenheim or the Vatican. it doesn't impose, it isn't even very wonderful as architecture. It's simply a decent, dignified 18th century gentleman's residence- as befits the leader of a scrupulously-conceived democracy. The person who is temporarily installed there isn't going to look round and think. "Finally made it!" or "King of the world!" but "Tolerable decor, nice view!"  and "It'll do for the next four years..."

The core has been added to down the years. But the additions have been functional. The East Wing, which is currently being chewed up, was built in the 1940s to serve- primarily- as a work space for a peculiarly active and activist First Lady.

Franklin and Eleanor- ah me- those were the days!

Power that is legitimately based- by, to and from the people- doesn't need to be bigged up or blinged up. It doesn't require halls of mirrors and gold taps. It exhales its own authority. 

The current resident of the White House hasn't understood any of this....

I really thought people beleived in democracy
and the constitution. but once rich people started
their private schools they could teach the crap
rich people beleive- the obama movie hints at.

but when dad developed dementia
his veneer was stripped the bully
inside was clearly visible.

tR has received massive doses of botox.
everytime his face became smoother
he seemed to loose levels of cognition.
first he struggled with the speach on paper,
then he could not read the prompter
and his memory of memorized speeches is decreasing
before he rants old beliefs.

they have recently proven that botox
does cross the blood brain barrier
if/when they do an autopsy they'll find it has
layers of personification like rings of a tree.

mom could pinpoint the places of damage
from her medical training. sigh

Let me try to clarify term of “democracy”?

Today we have democracy of oligarchy when we choice from bad evil and small evil, but always choice evil!

public school curriculum and the public stations

we studied history and government

the declaration of independence
and the reason many people let europe
wanting to be free to worship
with out a king/pope declaring their beliefs,
hoping there would be no inquisitions here
the no taxation with out representation
basicly money stays here and we help people here.

the constitution
how the government worked
the 3 parts and checks and balances

federal and state government
and the states governing bodies

how greed and prejudice
set up the witch trials here
noticing puritans and the laws
set up penalizing the poor
and they were to be ended along with slavery
_ civil war studies
the all people are created equal and should have equal opportunites

schools were set up in the 1900's
and kids were freed from factories
sadly Ford was part of setting up the curriculum
aimed at making good little employees
tardies and attendance and just enough reading
for filling in forms and job related reading.
the Finns in Minnesota led in setting up unions
to counteract the corporation ruling everything
they tried setting up the KKK to break unions
and they were disrobed and run off.

I remembering france setting up the internet
and the idea that every one could use it
and hopefully do national elections
I would have liked it done here.

some villages and towns have made for free wifi
for the people living there others its in libraries and restaurants- and stores...schools. some colleges have
free classes for learning
sadly many are too busy working 2-3 jobs
to spend time learning

found out from the neices husband
florida graduates kids at 16
and their brains aren't fully developed at 22
minnesota worked twords at least junior college
or a trade school.

more recently
sadly I found out reasons for immigration
from finland was their civil war
(not from family who fled,
because they didn't want to fight family)
the norweigions fought in the world wars
not just to defend norway but some
joined the russians or the germans.
called socialists or communists or natzies.
those people were not welcome back in norway
and they came with other Norse that came because
there was no room for them on the family farm.
my father came from a brandt a generation in germany
who masqueraded as a norweigion and had natzi masigonist leanings- he called mom a laplander which is
like the indigenous folks
called souix/dogs by other tribes.
woman's right were forced on people like him.
