A friend suggests that we lay traps for you so we can be 100% sure, but I think this would be a little mean and sneaky.
(You do realise that as little as 200 years ago what you've done could have got you hung or transported to Australia? Let no-one deny that we've made some progress in this modern era of ours!)
I have reviewed the options- and come to the conclusion that the least destructive one is to go on pretending we don't know, while doing what we can to ensure you aren't tempted again.
A mitigating circumstance is that you're hard up and we're not- and all property is theft, innit!
The lest of your offences is that you've taken things.
