Ailz asks me if I "rate" the woman I was listening to yesterday who was talking about The Shift- and I say, "Yes".

But I'm not entirely happy with my answer. "Rate" I want to add isn't the same as "Believe". I like the woman, I like her energy and her take on things, but I don't necessarily believe her.

I collect information- esoteric and non-esoteric (much as I collect knick-knacks ) then add it to the data banks and see how it fits with everything else that's in there. My assent to anything rarely goes beyond "very likely".

Apparently that's very rare.

For a simple yes/no stance question, my gathering works much like a balance scale -- every datapoint goes into the "yes" or the "no" pan. Only when there is a substantial discrepancy will I determine my stance to be the "heavier" side with more data.

For more complex things, it's more like a chart in 2D or 3D or more, where the datapoints form clusters. Here's a chart about reliability (left-right) and trust (up-down) that shows where four clusters might fall, and curves between them. Again, I do my best to map datapoints and set my stance accordingly. This mode also lends itself well to watching for outlier clusters and tracking when different things are falling on the same field, so I can try to distinguish variables.

If there is no preponderance of data weighing toward a particular answer or course of action, then I don't set a stance for that issue, because I don't yet have enough information to indicate what an accurate or at least desirable stance would be.

I still keep an eye on the ongoing data because things can change.

Apparently almost nobody does this, and when I mention it, people tend to freak out. *shrug* They can do what they want with their own beliefs, but I'm not going to switch unless someone proves they have a more accurate and functional process than my current one.
