I'm not dead, that's the main thing.

Remember that loft ladder we had installed a couple of weeks ago? Well it's not there any more. Last night, as I was descending, it tore loose from its moorings,  flew me through the air with the greatest of ease and deposited me on my butt some five feet below.

My first  reaction was to be very, very, very calm. My next reaction was to think ,"help, they're trying  to murder me". And my philosophy  this morning is, "well,  shit happens".

I got off with light bruising, but falls like that can kill people or put them in a wheelchair for life.

OK, the guy did a gimcrack job, but I'm a fool for letting him sell it me.  I could probably sue, but at what cost in sleepless nights?

He's coming round this afternoon. We'll hammer something out.

Anyway, I'm here and I might not have been.

Life is sweet.

Thanks.

It makes me wonder whether there's something important I'm supposed to do before I finally snuff it.

Ouch indeed. But given how hard I landed I've got off very lightly.

I don't like the word "miracle" but I'm having to work hard to avoid it.

Cripes! I'm really glad you're OK. Hinting that you might sue will probably get you a long way without the stress of actually doing so.

I think the guy was frightened we might sue and was nicer than pie when he called round this afternoon to set things right.

You know, I wouldn't even hint about suing, wait and see what he says (he's probably already worried about that anyway), but I'm glad you're okay.

We did as you suggested. and, yes, he was aware of the threat without us having to voice it.

Thanks

I find it rarely pays to be the aggressor in most situations like this, it only sets people's backs up when they might have been willing to be reasonable before you opened your mouth. "Wait and see" is my motto.

I agree. I don't like confrontation- and , yes, if you're pleasant with people they're usually pleasant back.

Ouch. You might find a few more sore spots tomorrow - usually the day after the day after is the worst. But I'm glad you aren't hurt too much.

Yes. Remember, you COULD sue. And stress that point. And if all else fails, I can send you a list of alum (from SU Law) that chose to work 'over there'.

I've been pretty good today. There's residual soreness, but that's all.

THe guy came round this afternoon and fixed everything. We're not going to sue. We don't want the aggro.

Oh my goodness! That's really scary!

A few years back, when I was moving a cart of books, the cart collapsed on my hand and almost severed my pinky. I had nine stitches, in any case. What I learned -- violence wakes you up, makes you conscious in a whole new way. There are better ways to become more conscious, albeit ...

I'm glad for your new lease on life. Somebody owes you something, whether it's money or recompense for other souls whose lofts are shaky.

I've done a huge ammount of writing today- about twice as much as I'd do normally. It's as if yesterday was energising.

Strange days indeed.

I'm thinking that yesterday's experience was actually some sort of gift.
