Ageing Cat
Jun. 30th, 2024 08:54 am Marlowe has become vocal in his old age. He used to be a cat of few words, but now chunners at us regularly and sometimes- when he's been out in the garden on his own or in some other private place of his- he'll yowl as if to say, "Where are you, my people?"
We don't actually know how old he is. He was a rescue cat and the people at the cat sanctuary guessed at his age. Round about four, they said. We got him in 2015- on the 20th of January. We hoped he'd control the rats at the farm. Instead he used to lie out where he could see the bird feeder and watch them as they helped themselves to seed. Occasionally he'd catch a harmless shrew or vole and bring them indoors for our amusement. He never killed anything except by accident.
He doesn't climb like he used to and though he can still manage the stairs he'll sometimes shrug and not follow us up to bed because why should he bother when he has plenty of cushions to sleep on downstairs?
