I hate it when people delete their journals. It's so sudden and final. One day there's bustle and chatter; the next day the site is empty and ploughed with salt.

So, [profile] kharin and[personal profile] the_red_shoes, if by any chance you're reading this, I'd like you to know that I miss you.

I don't remember there being an explanation. And now it's too late to go back and see if there was.

He did post a message last week saying he was going to delete. Just tired of LJ, I think.

Thanks. I obviously missed that.

You may (or may not) be interested in [livejournal.com profile] kharinphotos and [livejournal.com profile] castrovalva.

Though it's not a diary (unless you made private entries), it seems to me that the main purpose of the journal is for its owner; onlookers may be welcome but it's not a "publication" as such. Still, I don't get the "delete it" vs "just leave it unused for a while" thing, either.

Thanks.

I'll go look at those two sites.

I suppose I do see LJ as being a publication of sorts (after all some journals have a readership equal to or greater than that of a small lit-mag)but obviously it's the writer's privilege to delete.

Still, I would prefer it if disused journals remained in existence.

I was wondering what had happened to Moira too.

I'm hoping it's a temporary thing. That she'll think better of it and return.

I remember she'd been discussing wanting to cut out distractions so she could write fiction, so perhaps she did it for a good, beneficial reason (even though I'd rather still have her journal around).

She has obviously had a bit of a love-hate relationship with LJ.

Ah well, I hope she'll reconsider.

I have to admit that I don't quite understand the deleting the whole journal thing. Taking a break from posting for a while, yes. Being too busy to post, yes. Deleting a post that one has, on calm reflection, thought better of, possibly. But suddenly wiping out everything that has gone before, no. Though I suppose people must have their reasons.

I guess one might suddenly come to hate everything one had written- and want to destroy it the way one burns an old diary.

But an LJ isn't just a diary. It has readers.
