Stepping Away From The Brink

We've taken the house off the market.

Thank goodness for that!

I was stood on the brink, arms going like windmills and then I stepped back.

I like this house. I like this neighbourhood. The thought of leaving made me utterly miserable.

I had intense, grungey dreams last night. I guess it was the tension working its way out of my system. At one point I woke with a start because someone had just thrown a dead cat at me. The cat was stiff with rigor mortis, bent in a half-moon shape.

Instead of moving we'll get a small mortgage and do this place up. New carpets. New windows. New wardobes.

Heh. I was just wondering this morning if you were still considering moving. From what little I know I think you quite suit your house and your neighbourhood. Sheppey really is a bit of a dive and I didn't want you to be disappointed. My parents did much the same thing with thinking they wanted to move and putting their house on the market. Nobody put in an offer, and when they took the house off they suddenly realised they were so relieved no to be moving that they threw a big party.

We liked what we saw of Sheerness, but it is a backwater. We've been worrying about how cut off we might become.

We're used to urban living. And Sheerness isn't really much more than a big village.

Me too :)

Great decision! You did the de-cluttering, and with the re-doing of some parts of the house, you get a new life without too much chaos!!!

Exactly.

And the de-cluttering continues...

I'm sure you've made the right decision. I didn't like to say anything, it not really being my business where you live, but I had wondered whether you might regret moving. You always seemed to enjoy being where you are now and you'd be leaving all your friends and neighbours and Ailz's family and have to start all over again building a social circle in the new place.

A house makeover sounds like a much better idea. I've been working on our house for a few years now, and it's starting to look quite good -- apart from the bits I haven't got to yet, of course. *g*

I think we'd have got there, enjoyed the first few weeks, then started pining to go "home".

Thanks.

We came to our senses...

I'm glad to hear it.

Your photos of your neighbourhood show you belon g there, not down south.

I'm originally from down south, but I've lived in the Manchester area for thirty years now; it's become my home.

yeah- this is nice to know. i'm glad- you have put a lot of time and creativity and history into that house. think of all the cats buried in the garden. you want ghosts- they're you're own personal ones!

it would suck to leave it behind.

mortgage though- that means you sell part of the house, then buy it back slowly? and you're going to use the mortgage money to do it up? but how are you ever going to buy it back?

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll be a very small mortgage and we'll use part of it to clear our existing debts. The repayments won't cost any more than we're paying out at present.

what debts do you have? other work you did on the house? holidays? LJ costs? ;)

Yeah, little things like that. Ailz does the finances; she's expert at juggling money.

I like the idea of new windows and carpets. Your house is lovely, and I would have missed the view.

The sea, for anyone in England, is close by, isn't it? (For me, it's nine hours away.)

I believe you're never more than about 50 miles from the sea anywhere in the British Isles.

I always consider it wise to trust your gut. Seems like your gut was sending you some pretty loud messages.

You'll have fun fixing the place up. We just refinanced our house and that's what we're doing. It's like Christmas in June. :-)
