Convalescent

 An attack of vertigo put me out of action yesterday. It wasn't a bad attack- and so long as I stayed sitting and not swinging my head around I wasn't overly aware of the symptoms. Today I'm convalescent- walking about gingerly in case the room suddenly becomes detached from it's moorings- which- touch wood- hasn't happened thus far...

Reading Ackroyd's London convinces me that, however nasty we still can be, human life  in this part of the world is far less unashamedly brutal than it was in previous centuries (up to and including the 20th.)
