At Last

 My grandparents should have done this. They didn't.

My parents should have done this. They didn't.

The resposibility got kicked down the field from generation to generation. 

I'm talking about the throwing out of accumulated family photos and other papers. And now it's my turn to either do it or pass. And- incidentally- I've been the worst accumulator of them all. 

I've chucked things out in the past but always found myself halted by sentiment before I got too radical. 

But now- what with having had the builders in and Ailz holding up a mirror to my behaviour- I'm unloading almost all of it.

The stuff that goes in the skip for household rubbish at the recycling centre is sent to an incinerator that generates energy for the town- so our family hoard will be of some use at last...

Accumulated family photos get especially awkward when nobody surviving knows who the photo is of and where or why it was taken!

That's right. With many of these pictures I'm the last person standing to have any idea who the people are.

Personally, I think there's a great deal of worth in your old family photos. And possibly in your old family papers.

If I lived closer to you, I'd volunteer to take them off your hands.
