poliphilo The Meeting House has a very swish electronic keyboard. Fabrizio and Miguel- aged 14 and 10- were practising on it, picking their way through Fur Elise, hesitantly and with persistent wrong notes. "So where's "A"?" Fab was muttering to himself.
But Fur Elise is unkillable.
It's only a bagatelle but not even Beethoven produced anything lovelier.
According to Wikipedia, Taiwanese garbage trucks (or bin lorries as we call them over here) play it to alert householders of their approach.
I just watched Lang Lang knock it out on a Steinway. He had hesitancies too but not because he couldn't find "A". He kept his eyes closed and had a look on his face like a Counter Reformation saint being martyred in the most blissful way imaginable.
